Dr. Laura Hancock
Teaching sexual health, from the beginning
About me
Laura Hancock, PhD
My passion is supporting parents and other caregivers to teach young children about healthy sexuality.
I'm Dr. Laura and I've dedicated over 10 years to supporting parents and caregivers of young children -- infants, toddlers, and kindergartners -- helping them start conversations about healthy sexuality from the earliest ages.
I have a diverse background, including art and anthropology. In 2012, while I was teaching middle and high school students about sexual health, I recognized a significant gap in resources for parents with children aged 5 and younger. A lot of parents with young kids have questions about what to do and say when it comes to sexual topics. I have a great affinity for kids in this age group, (and a lot of empathy for the people raising them!). Moreover, I love research, writing and teaching, and this inspired me to develop my own curriculum.
Today, I offer private coaching, classes and speaking engagements to give parents the knowledge they need to handle this tricky topic with confidence. Moreover, I have had the privilege of writing a book with Dr. Karen Rayne called, Sex Ed for the Stroller Set. This award winning book encapsulates the most important lessons from my classes and is a great resource full of background information, scripts, and practical suggestions.
I hope you'll connect with me.
Children are learning about sexuality from the time they are born. In other words, you've already started teaching them about it.
Maybe you want to do things differently from the way you were raised, but don't know how. Perhaps you have encountered a specific situation and weren't quite sure what to do. Or maybe you want to learn more about a particular topic and what you can say to your young child. Whatever your reason, if you're curious about sexuality in early childhood and want help with how to teach it, you've come to the right place.
